Florida track athletes left stranded on side of road after coach’s suspended license incident

In Miami, Florida, four track athletes were booted out of a rental car purchased by their coach. The vehicle was towed because the coach was pulled over for speeding and was driving with a suspended license. The athletes' parents called the school and since the event wasn't noted, the school had no responsibility for the four children getting home and off of the highway.

If I was in this situation, my parents would be highly upset and would possible consider taking the school and/or the coach to court. I truly believe this was a very unnecessary act of stupidity and could have been avoided cautionsly. How would parents have went about to this event?
